Carved and constructed out of the sheer canyon walls, there are 300 Indian cliff dwellings dating to the 13th century at Walnut Canyon National Monument. Located at this monument are exhibits depicting life during this period. The tour will take you to the Bonito Lava Flow and Sunset Crater, a 1,000 foot high volcano cone that erupted in 1064 AD, and then on to Wupatki National Monument containing over 800 Indian ruins dating back to 1100 AD. This round trip is 134 miles.

Travel 1-40 west 26 miles to Walnut Canyon Exit 204, then 3 miles south to the Park entrance. Return to I-40 and continue to Flagstaff Exit 201 (Country Club Road), right to U.S. 89 north, then 10 miles to the Bonito Lava Flow, Sunset Crater and Wupatki Ruins, returning via U.S. 89 south to Flagstaff and I-40 east to Meteor Crater RV Park.
